Snow in Summer Seeds - Cerastium Tomentosum - Perennial & Pollinator Friendly

Quantity: 100 Seeds

Snow in Summer, aka Cerastium Tomentosum, is a perennial member of the Pink family,

Caryophyllaceae. It's native to Southern Italy and is hardy to zone 3. The plants can grow up to 1 foot tall, and the flowers are very beautiful and abundant; they attract a wide range of pollinators. Snow in Summer makes for an excellent ground cover, and growing them anywhere in or near the garden will increase pollination of crops and other plants in the area due to the increase of pollinators they attract. These plants are quite easy to grow, and require almost no maintenance once established. They can spread by rhizome, but are not agressive enough to be considered weedy. This plant is deer resistant, so it don't need to be planted within a fenced area.

All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

  • Growing Instructions

Snow in Summer seeds may be started in pots in the winter or spring, or directly sown onto the ground. The plants are said to do best when cold stratified for 8 - 12 weeks; however, We've had great success with no stratification as well. If sown indoors, plant the seeds in a sterile growing medium; most available seed starting soils should do the job nicely; we use sunshine mix (peat moss and perlite). The soil should be made moist, but not damp. It is best to sow the seeds on the soil surface to 1/8 inch deep. Store in a warm area until tiny sprouts emerge from the soil. Once germinated, and the first true leaf has formed, it's time to pot up to a larger container that contains a good quality potting soil. Transplant to their final location when the nighttime temperatures are consistently 8°C or higher. The plants don’t require very much attention once established other than maybe a layer of mulch, and a bi-weekly watering.
