Russian Tarragon Seeds - Artemisia Dracunculoides Pursch - Flavourful & Aromatic

Russian Tarragon, aka Artemisia Dracunculoides Pursch, is a tried and true culinary herb in the Aster family Asteraceae. It originates in Eurasia and North America, and lives as a perennial down to zone 5. The leaves are fragrant and pungent in flavour. Although not as strong as French Tarragon, it's flavour is quite similar and is a perfectly suitable replacement when used fresh. Where it outshines french tarragon is in it's size, volume, and cold tolerance, making it a much better plant to grow in the garden. It's used in a wide variety of dishes, but their flavour truly shines when used with soup, chicken, fish, vegetables, and in salad dressings. These shrubs are vigorous growers, and once established, will produce an abundance of herb for many years to come.

Growing Instructions
It's best to start Russian Tarragon seeds 4-6 weeks before the last frost. It's good to sow them in a sterile growing medium; most available seed starting soils should do the job nicely; we use sunshine mix (peat moss and perlite). The soil should be made moist, but not damp. Sow the seeds on the soil surface. Store in a warm area until tiny sprouts emerge from the soil. A heat mat aids in this step, but is not necessary. Once germinated, and the first two true leaves have formed, it's time to pot up to a larger container that contains a good quality potting soil. Transplant to their final location when the nighttime temperatures are consistently 8°C or higher, which is around mid-may for us at the farm. Rosemary does best when grown in full sun.
