Orach Seeds - Atriplex hortensis - Delicious, Vigorous, and Abundant
Quantity: 100 Seeds
Red Orach, aka Atriplex hortensis, is a tried and true heirloom vegetable. It’s a member of the Amaranth family, Amaranthaceae, and originates in Europe. It lives as an annual and can be grown in many environments. It is eaten in the same was as spinach and makes an excellent replacement; however, unlike spinach which is known to bolt in hot weather, Orach thrives in the heat, so is great to have around when the spinach starts to struggle. The plants can grow anywhere from to 2 to 6 feet tall, but can easily be cut back to any desired height. The leaves are substantial, and grow in abundance. The young leaves work well as an ingredient in salads, while the larger leaves are best used in soup, stir fry, or simply sautéed on their own.
All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

Growing Instructions
Once the danger of frost has passed, direct sow the seeds 1/8 inch bellow the soil surface, and keep moist until sprouts appear. The plants should sprout in early spring. Plants thrive with plenty of sun, but appreciate shade during the mid day when it is hottest. It likes loamy soils, and doesn’t seem to be particular to PH, but does like the soil to be free draining of water. These plants are disease and pest resistant, and can provide high quality food during the coolest parts of the season.
